What is the best way to take CBD Oil?

One of the most common questions we get asked from our customers is "what is the best way to take CBD Oil" or "How should i take CBD". I will deal with how much CBD oil you should take in another post.

There are four common ways in which CBD is taken as a health supplement and I will look in to each of those now in more detail below. The most common way to take CBD is sublingual or under the tongue, and our CBD oil drops with tinctures are perfect for this. The next most common method from our customers is topically in the form of a cream or balm which is applied to the skin. We also sell a lot of CBD that can be ingested or eaten such as tablets and chocolates. Finally, there are a lot of users that like to inhale CBD through Vape's but that is something we don't typically recommend.

TAKING CBD DROPS SUBLINGUALLY (UNDER THE TONGUE)

You can purchase CBD oil tinctures – little bottles that look like eye drops (see below) – to take your CBD oil sublingually (under your tongue). Simply apply a few drops under your tongue, hold it in your mouth for ~30 seconds, then swallow! This method is discreet, effective, and gives you feelings of calm and well-being.

PROS OF SUBLINGUAL CONSUMPTION

  • Easy to use and requires no extra tools or accessories.
  • Discreet – you can use them in public easily without drawing attention.
  • It’s easy to control how much you use.
  • Long-lasting effects when taken this way.

CONS OF SUBLINGUAL CONSUMPTION

  • Results may vary from person to person.
  • Some tinctures contain alcohol – if you’re trying to avoid this, look for oils made with vegetable glycerin or MTC Oil
  • Some people don't like the hemp taste

Conclusion: While there is still a lack of Scientific research in this area, most of the educated opinions that we are reading suggest that CBD has better bio-availability when consumed sublingually versus orally and  MCT oil-based tinctures are thought to provide better uptake than a traditional oil. However, every formulation is different, and those small differences matter when it comes to bio-availability.

You may as well try holding your CBD oil or tincture under your tongue before swallowing it—you could find that you feel it working slightly faster. Our feedback from customers is that they recommended that you hold it there for at least 60 seconds.

TOPICAL APPLICATION (CREAMS & BALMS)

The next way to use CBD oil is through topical application – meaning, you place it on your skin in the form of a balm or ointment.

This method is probably the easiest as it doesn’t require any special tools or knowledge to use. Simply figure out the dosage you want (we’ll help you with that in another post), then apply that amount of balm to your skin.

This method is best for sore muscles, migraines, and skin conditions like acne. You can apply the balm directly to any sore areas, such as a sore neck, back, or your feet.

PROS OF TOPICAL APPLICATION

  • Easy to use.
  • No extra tools or accessories required.
  • Great for sore muscles and pain.
  • Has the most mild effects of all the consumption methods.

CONS OF TOPICAL APPLICATION

  • Has the most mild effects of all the consumption methods (you might require more CBD).
  • While the effects happen quickly, they don’t last as long in comparison to other methods.
  • Some ointments and balms are quite smelly?

INGESTION AND EDIBLES

Third on our list we have edibles! Adding CBD oil to your food is a fun and easy way to take your CBD.  Aside from purchasing pre-made CBD-infused foods, you can also make your own CBD edibles, such as CBD-infused butter or pasta. Just be aware of how much oil you put in your food. Also for people who don't like the taste of the drops, having CBD in chocolates or gummy bears can be a very pleasant way to take CBD if you don't mind the few extra calories! Note: Be careful about how much you eat! Effects from edibles can take 2-4 hours to kick in, so people often eat too much. It’s always better to wait a few hours and see how you feel before eating any more.

PROS OF EDIBLES

  • Longest-lasting results of all CBD consumption methods.
  • Practically endless options of how to create (and eat) CBD edibles.
  • Also very discreet – you’re just eating something!

CONS OF EDIBLES

  • Can take up to 4 hours for effects to kick in.
  • Getting the right dose can be tricky and takes some experimentation

VAPING CBD OIL

You can vape CBD oil with a vaporizer pen.

PROS OF VAPING

  • High concentration means maximum possible effects.
  • No harsh smoke to aggravate your throat and lungs.
  • Easily control your dosage amounts.

CONS OF VAPING

  • The high concentration may be more than you want to feel.
  • Requires extra purchases (CBD vape pen and accessories).

While there are many vapers in the UK, we prefer to recommend other ways of taking CBD to our customers.

CONCLUSION

Most of our customers who take CBD as a regular health supplement normally opt to take the drops under the tongue. WE have tasted a lot of different products and the taste and after taste differ greatly between products and we have noticed some products are almost pleasant tasting and very smooth, so it is worth asking for some advice or trying a few different brands.

For customers looking to relieve the symptoms of pain, topically applications are normally the preferred usage method. Medterra's  CBD pain cream is very popular as a topical supplement but again watch out for products with a strong smell.

Note: We always encourage you to discuss CBD with your physician or healthcare practitioner if you have any specific health-related questions or concerns. The products we sell should not be used as a substitute for a varied diet and healthy balanced lifestyle.
